Dream Tale Puppets

More Vacation Workshops

Art and Theatre Workshop at the John Wesley United Methodist Church

Participants immersed themselves in a theatrical adventure, concluding in a final performance based on motifs from Lewis Carroll’s Alice stories. To build skills toward this performance, they played acting games, learned how to act with table top puppets, rehearsed scenes, and created characters. Each student built their own table top figure puppet; along the way, they learned how to design, sculpt, paint, and creatively use a medley of materials, including fabric, yarn, wood, rope, and a variety of recycled objects.

Monday – Friday, February 15 -19, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., ages 8-12

Mermaid and the Whale at the Sandwich Public Library

This four day workshop in puppet building and set painting was part of the production of the puppet play “The Mermaid and the Whale,” based on an old Wampanoag tale related in Georgess McHargue’s book (1973). After the participating children built puppets under Jacek Zuzanski’s guidance, the production continued under leadership of the Sandwich Public Library’s Kathy Johnson and Courtenay Harrington-Bailey, acting teacher and founder/owner of Dramafun.

4 day workshop; 18 days of preparatory work across three months, culminating in a show presented on August 13, 2014 on the library lawn.
